Guest guest
Hi all! Are any of you Kaiser members? They tell me I'm supposed to pick a doctor, but all they can tell me about them is where they went to university. Vegetarian? Holistic? No clue. So, I thought if anyone would know a good doctor, preferably in one of the Santa Clara locations, it would be one of you. I just don't want another doctor who sees veganism as suspect and thinks I should drink milk or who sees me as just fine because I'm not majorly sick. Thanks for any recommendations you can offer! Sorry Ken and I haven't been around. I thought we would be by now. However, Ken has been remodeling our kitchen every weekend and every evening, so we've been real homebodies. However, eventually, I'm hoping our home will be nice enough we can host some veggie potlucks. I'll admit a lot of your events sound like a lot of fun (not to mention great food), and I hope you're getting great turnouts! Just a thought to all of you small-boned women out there. Unless you're having a huge serving of collard greens on a daily basis, you may want to start taking 1000mg of calcium daily (1500 if you're over 50). I've been taking about 500mg since about 40, and it hasn't been enough. I went to a health fair recently and had my bone density tested. I don't have osteoporosis yet, but I have 'low bone mass' or osteopenia. And I haven't even hit menopause yet. There are other vegan sources of calcium, like tofu, broccoli, fortified soymilk, etc., but it's hard to get enough of them without overeating. Besides, the books I've read recommend high-calcium foods along with the pills. See all of you soon, I hope!
