Guest guest
I have eaten BK Veggies occasionally for a couple of years now. But recently, I have noticed what looks like mayonnaise in my BK Veggie. I saw it on 2/26/05 in a BK Veggie that I got at the Burger King near Trimble Road and Highway 101 in Santa Clara. Then, this last Saturday (3/5/05), I saw it in a BK Veggie that I got at the Burger King on El Camino Real near Scott Blvd. in Santa Clara. Does anybody know whether it's really mayonnaise? -- Mike
Guest guest
It is mayo. You have to order it with no mayo. Guest guest
While I applaud Burger King's efforts to take care of the vegetarians, you should know that the veggie burgers are not vegan. They are made by Morningstar and therefore contain eggs (and milk). Since mayonnaise is primarily eggs and oil, it doesn't matter if you leave it off or not. Per Burger King's website: " BK VEGGIE® BURGER FROM MORNINGSTAR FARMS® Water, Vegetables (Mushrooms, Water Chestnuts, Onions, Carrots, Green Bell Peppers, Red Bell Peppers, Black Olives), Textured Vegetable Protein (Soy Protein Concentrate, Wheat Gluten, Water for Hydration), Egg Whites, Cooked Brown Rice (Water, Brown Rice), Rolled Oats, Corn Oil, Calcium Caseinate, Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Wheat), Onion Powder, Corn Starch, Salt, Hydrolyzed Corn, Soy, and Wheat Protein, Yeast Extract, Natural Flavors from non-meat sources, Sugar, Soy Protein Isolate, Spices, Garlic Powder, Dextrose, Jalapeño Pepper Powder, Celery Extract. Contains: Soy, Wheat, Milk and Egg. This is NOT a vegan product. Guest guest
Here's what I have found out. The BK Veggie does, by default, have reduced-fat mayonnaise of which egg whites are an ingredient. As Jason Wold suggested, one can order it with no mayonnaise. I did that at lunchtime today. The words " NO MAYO " were printed on my receipt, and my BK Veggie was prepared without any mayonnaise. It tasted good. Here are the ingredients of the patty, the bun, and the mayonnaise of the BK Veggie (info from http://www.vegparadise.com/news15.html). I see " egg " in the listing for the mayonnaise, but not in the listings for the patty or the bun. Ingredient Listing for Patty: WATER, MUSHROOMS, WATER CHESTNUTS, COOKED BROWN RICE, TEXTURED WHEAT PROTEIN, ROLLED OATS, VITAL WHEAT GLUTEN, FROZEN ONIONS, CORN OIL, FROZEN CARROTS, POTATO STARCH, FROZEN GREEN PEPPERS, FROZEN RED PEPPERS, 2% OR LESS OF ONION POWDER, CORN STARCH, BLACK OLIVES, METHYLCELLULOSE, SALT, MODIFIED TAPIOCA STARCH, RICE FLOUR, YEAST EXTRACT, OAT FIBER, SUGAR, POTATO DEXTRIN, KONJAC FLOUR, GARLIC POWDER, BLACK PEPPER, MALTODEXTRIN, NATURAL FLAVORS FROM NON-MEAT SOURCES, DEXTROSE, SODIUM BICARBONATE, SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE, HYDROLYZED CORN GLUTEN, MALT EXTRACT, SAGE, GRILL FLAVOR, BASIL, RAISIN JUICE CONCENTRATE, OREGANO, JALAPENO PEPPER POWDER, SESAME OIL, MODIFIED CORN STARCH, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, NATURAL SMOKE FLAVORING, CELERY OLEORESIN, WINE, CITRIC ACID, CARAMEL COLOR, AND XANTHAN GUM. Ingredient Listing for 4 " Bun: ENRICHED FLOUR (NIACIN, IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, RIBOBLAVIN, AND FOLIC ACID), WATER, SUGAR, (SUCROSE OR HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP), VEGETABLE SHORTENING, YEAST, SALT, WHEAT GLUTEN, SESAME SEEDS, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL BUTTER FLAVOR, YEAST FOOD (CALCIUM SULFATE, POTASSIUM IODATE, AND/OR AMMONIUM SULFATE) DOUGH CONDITIONERS (POLYSORBATE 60, CALCIUM PEROXIDE {OXIDANT}, CALCIUM SALTS, SULFATES, PHOSPHATES, AND AMMONIUM SALTS), DOUGH STRENGTHENERS (SODIUM AND/OR CALCIUM-2-STEAROYL LACTYLATE OR ETHOXYLATED MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES), DOUGH SOFTENERS ( MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, AND/OR PROTEASE ENZYME), MOLD INHIBITOR (CALCIUM PROPIONATE), PRESERVATIVE (POTASSIUM SORBATE), OXIDATION REDUCTION ADDITIVES (ASCORBIC ACID, POTASSIUM/CALCIUM IODATE, ALPHA-AMYLASE, AZODICARBONAMIDE), LEAVENING AGENT (MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE). Ingredient Listing for Reduced-Fat Mayonnaise: WATER, SOYBEAN OIL, CORN SYRUP, EGG WHITES, DISTILLED VINEGAR, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, SALT, SUGAR, SPICE, XANTHAN GUM, MUSTARD FLOUR, SODIUM BENZOATE AND POTASSIUM SORBATE AS PRESERVATIVES, LEMON JUICE, POLYSORBATE 60, CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA TO PROTECT FLAVOR, OLEORESIN PAPRIKA, SODIUM CITRATE, ANNATTO COLOR, MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES. Because of the dairy component of the bun, http://www.veg.ca/directory/fastfood.html advises " If you are vegan ask for the 'specialty bun'.
