Guest guest
Dear South Bay Vegetarian Club Members, Hello, David Pearl here, group co-founder. Many of you are probably wondering why I haven't attended an event in six months. I've been taking an indefinite sabbatical from the group after 2 1/2 years of intense involvement with the organization. My life emphasis has now shifted from the group and attending college to involvement in a men's organization, the Democratic Party, acting, modeling and looking at other careers such as marketing. I feel I need to make an official announcement about my commitment to the group so as to avoid any confusion or lack of clarity. At this point in time the only duties I will be performing will be to periodically check the listserv to see if any new members need to be approved to join the list. In addition I no longer receive email from the group but do occasionally check the listserv. Otherwise, I'll be seeing many of you on a social basis and at various functions and events. In addition, I'll be moving to San Francisco for the month of February. If all goes well I'll be relocating up there for good. I'll make sure and include my new address and phone number while I'm there. Occasionally I'll still be posting events to the listserv. I'm inviting as many of you as possible to my birthday party on the 22nd. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as the cofounder, board member, and listserv founder of the group. I can't tell you the joy I've experienced helping to create a vegetarian community in Silicon Valley. I don't think any vegetarian group in Silicon Valley has lasted as long as we have. It's been a joy to watch the group grow from 0 to almost 300 members. Next month will mark the 3rd anniversary of the existence of this group. This is a testament to the hundreds of volunteers who have worked to help out with the listserv, the website, planning meetings, putting together events, and all the other behind-the-scenes work to make a group like this possible. This group has certainly been a very egalitarian, democratic, collaborative effort. My hat goes off to all of you for your participation in the group. I strongly encourage each of you to consider hosting one event in the New Year. Just think, if each member puts on just one event this year we will have a minimum of 285 events this year ! Hosting an event is a wonderful chance for growth; you get to develop leadership skills, self-confidence, you get to have the kind of events you want to see, and you help keep this group going into the future. More than ever we need leaders to help plan out the direction of the group, put together events, and continue to publicizing and spread the word about the group. I'd like to see somebody take over the reins as far as publicize the group i.e. having a table at some of the festival's going on in the spring and summer or simply pasting fliers at various locations throughout Silicon Valley. I also appreciate anyone who can get our events listed on other website or calendars. In summary, this is not a goodbye but simply handing over the reins to other folks so they can have a chance to lead the group. I'm sure I'll see all of you at various events in the coming New Year. Warmest wishes for a wonderful 2005! Regards, David Pearl Telephone: 408-554-1187 or mrpearl67
