Guest guest
This Thursday, I will be hosting a dinner in Santa Cruz at Dharma's at 6:30 pm followed by a bookreading up the street at the Capitola Book Cafe at 7:30 pm. The book is " One at a Time: A Week in an American Animal Shelter " by Dianne Leigh and Marilee Geyer. Some people have asked me about what a bookreading is so I thought I'd explain it. You can read more about this particular event at: http://www.capitolabookcafe.com/events/aug04.html#geyer A bookreading is an opportunity for an author to showcase his/her book. He/She will often say a few words about the book and read a small excerpt (or a few exceprts) from it. This alone is pretty neat because you get to hear the author's words in the author's voice. Usually there is also some kind of show-and-tell or audiovisual display to add to the experience. Always, there is a question and answer period where the author and the audience can have a dialog about the subject material, the research that went into the book, and any current projects or future directions for the author and his/her work. After the Q & A, the author remains available to sign the book and meet and greet people. (Sometimes there are unexpected treats. John Robbins showed up to the last bookreading I attended for The Pig Who Sang to the Moon by Jeffrey Mousaieff Mason.) You can read more about this particular event at: http://www.capitolabookcafe.com/events/aug04.html#geyer Please RSVP to me if you are interested in attending the dinner. If you are not interested in the dinner, you can still drop in on the bookreading. Cheers, Matthew (831) 239-2103 New and Improved Mail - Send 10MB messages!
