Carol DalyCBS5.com Staff Governor Schwarzenegger backed down Friday from a fight with animal rights activists. His money-saving proposal to euthanize more cats and dogs came under fire from animal lovers across the country. Friday, the governor told reporters that he made a mistake, and the waiting period would not be changed."The animals will be kept in the animal shelters for six days," Schwarzenegger said. "Everything will stay exactly the same."Schwarzenegger's proposal had included a provision to cut the waiting period before stray dogs and cats were euthanized from six days to three days.
