Guest guest
Friends: This is a followup invitation to an event I posted on Tuesday: Peace the 21st from 7:00-9:00 today preceeded by dinner at Mitchell Park. There is one change: because this is a new event and I haven't heard back from anybody, I don't know if we have enough coming for a potluck to work. So I'm now recommending that anybody coming to Mitchell Park from 5:30-6:30 bring dinner with them, rather than bringing a dish to share potluck style. You can recognize me by my beard, mustache and crescent shaped blue meditation cushion (not needed - most people meditate in chairs). The Peace the 21st(details below), starting at 7:00 should have normal attendance. Please note that Peace the 21st is not one of the war protests occurring this weekend because it is one year after the invasion of Iraq. It is instead a regular event held 4 times a year, every Solstice and Equinox in over 42 countries. These events all involve meditation. The Palo Alto event will also have a talk, some Dances of Universal Peace . No previous experience with these is necessary. You may watch if you prefer, but I highly recommend participating. The evening ends with brief socializing over simple (and not necessarily healthful) snacks. Peace the 21st is a once a quarter event on or near each solstice and equinox, observed in over 42 countries. "The program from 7:00 to 9:00 PM includes meditation and Dances of Universal Peace, with refreshments at the end." (from Gui's invitation, complete text below). I am also inviting anybody interested in joining me for a potluck-style (or optionally just bring your own meal) picnic at Mitchell Park from 5:30 to 6:30, The potluck will be vegetarian. I am inviting another group, SouthBayVeggies. After eating and meeting each other, we will head over (walking or driving) to the Unitarian Universalist Church on Charleston, where Peace the 21st will be held. Meet near the picnic tables closer to Meadow (Mitchell Park has an entrance on Meadow between Middlefield and Alma, and one on Middlefield between Charleston and Meadow at a stoplight). I'd appreciate email or a call if you are planning to come, so I have an idea who is going to join me at Mitchell Park. Neither the potluck nor Peace the 21st will be exclusively for singles. Feel free to invite anybody to either event. Hope to see some of you there for either or both (potluck picnic and/or Peace the 21st)! Pete (408)246-0737 ************* Peace the 21st Invitation from Gui Shearin ****************************** You are cordially invited to the spring equinox vigil for world peace sponsored by Golden Gate Peace the 21st on Sunday, March 21. This event provides a calm space in which to reflect and meditate for a while, focus on bringing peace within and without, and meet with others having the same interest. Feel free to bring a friend or relative and join us on Sunday evening. The event will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Palo Alto at 505 East Charleston, between Alma Street and Middlefield Road, in the Fireside Room next to the main hall. For those of you not familiar with this location, the exit driveway from the church is the stoplight on East Charleston at Nelson Drive, one block west of Middlefield Road. The driveway entrance is about 150 feet west of the exit and is marked by a lighted sign. The program from 7:00 to 9:00 PM includes meditation and Dances of Universal Peace, with refreshments at the end. Chairs are available for the meditation, but you may bring a pillow to sit on, if you prefer. Peace the 21st is a cooperative worldwide network of people of all faiths and beliefs in over 42 countries praying, visualizing, and meditating together for world peace on or near the solstices and equinoxes. Golden Gate Peace the 21st is our local community prayer/meditation gathering to support our daily personal/planetary peace focus. Please come and join us.
