Guest guest
The comments about the little turtles for sale with no thought for their future were moving. I especially liked the contribution from one person: "It's at the core of our whole society. We have to make big changes to our society, including the economic, legal and social system." A very astute comment .... In the sustainability/earth-centered movement, where I have been actively involved, some information talks about the impact on the environment of our food choices. For example, consider from one of the readings in the course, Choices for Sustainable Living, "It takes 16 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of feedlot beef. It takes only 1 pound of grain to produce 1 pound of bread." Or another, "To feed 1 meat-eater for a year requires 3 and 1/4 acres of land. To feed 1 vegetarian for a year requires 1/2 acre." I mention this because, as a volunteer, I help facilitate such courses, sponsored by the Northwest Earth Institute, www.nwei.org, for interested groups. New ones will be coming up and I will be happy to copy you all on the information, should anyone want to get involved. Most are in the mid-peninsula, but if there is interest down here, all we need is a place to meet and some 10+ interested folks.
