We also got a great opportunity to meet and learn about the animals, like Gilbert the Goat, who was found hog-tied in the sweltering sun, but still followed us around with the rest of the goats, wanting our attention. Brenda Grace the Pig came over to us and plopped down on the ground for a memorable group belly rub. We all had a great time and were reminded of all the great reasons (like Gilbert and Brenda Grace) to be vegan. Upcoming Events Give the Animals Something to be Thankful for this Thanksgiving Thanksgiving can sometimes be a stressful holiday for vegetarians, as “Turkey Day” frequently involves friends and family feasting over a dead bird. If you haven’t already made your Thanksgiving plans, consider having a turkey-free holiday meal with fellow vegetarians. See http://www.bayareaveg.org/events.php for some get-togethers around the Bay Area. If you’ve never had a Tofurky (http://www.tofurky.com/) or Unturkey (www.nowandzen.net/unturkey.html) for Thanksgiving, you’re in for a treat — and so are the turkeys! Fur Free Friday Every year, the day after Thanksgiving is nationally recognized as Fur Free Friday, a day when activists across the country speak out against the brutal killing of millions of animals for their fur. On the busiest shopping day of the year, shoppers are urged to consider the injustice of animals being anally electrocuted or caught in leg-hold traps to be killed so unnecessarily. This year, there will be a peaceful vigil outside notorious fur retailers Neiman "Carcass" and Saks. Please join us! When: Friday, November 28, 12 noon - 3:00pmWhere: Meet in front of Neiman "Carcass" on the corner of Stockton & Geary in San Francisco's Union Square Don't Forget! Please join FFA and punk singer John Feldmann of Goldfinger in protesting KFC this Staurday at 1058 Valencia St. between 21st and 22nd St. in the Mission at 2:45pm. See details for this and other events at www.freedom4animals.org/events.php. Restaurant of the Week Citrus Club 1790 Haight St. @ ShraderSan Francisco, CA 94117(415) 387-6366 Mon. - Thurs. 11:30am - 10:00pmFri. & Sat. 11:30am - 11:00pm Citrus Club has been around for several years but may not be very well known. Though a relatively small place where you can guarantee a wait, it is well worth it as most of the appetizers are vegan and almost half of the entree menu is or can be made vegetarian/vegan. Combine this with the cheap prices and the popular location, this Asian noodle house is a place you must check out! Did You Know...? More than 45 million turkeys will be killed this year for Thanksgiving alone. To learn about how the overwhelming majority of turkeys are raised, please visit: http://www.peta.org/feat/turk2003/life.html. Action Tip This is the perfect time of year to write letters to newspaper editors about the treatment of turkeys on factory farms and about the choice many people are making to start a turkey-free Thanksgiving tradition. Requesting that the paper include vegetarian Thanksgiving recipes is a quick and easy way to show the paper that there is an interest in vegetarian eating. When writing letters to the editor, make sure to be concise, as papers tend to prefer shorter letters. Also make sure to include your full name, address and telephone number so the paper can verify the letter with you if they decide to print it. Powered by Mojo Mail 2.8.7 1999-2003, Justin Simoni.
