Guest guest
I have an idea: 1. I think a lot of people (myself included), appreciate how clean and efficient this mailing list usually is. At its best, it provides quick information as to what's happening on the vegetarian social calendar, without requiring the user to wade through a lot of junk. 2. I think a lot of people (and sometimes these are even the SAME people I described in #1!) also appreciate having an online forum where they can share their views and thoughts on vegetarian-related issues (perhaps even political ones!) and discuss them with their friends. For example, if I recall correctly, Heifer International was brought up not to promote it but to question whether an organization that purports to share the same goals as many vegetarians - ending world hunger and preserving the environment - should still be condemned for the means it uses (handing off cattle and other animals for poor families to use for food). I certainly think this is an appropriate topic for discussion among vegetarians, but perhaps this listserv is not the place to do it. I don't think it's written anywhere that SBVS is only allotted ONE . I would be more than happy to start up a separate discussion board if there is sufficient interest. I invite feedback on this idea to my private inbox. Sarah Kishlerwww.geocities.com/sakishler
Guest guest
Dear South Bay Vegetarian Society listserve rs: SBVS appreciates all of the interest and intellectual discourse that has transpired as a result of my recent policy message regarding the listserve. Please understand that the goal is for us to have an effective communication tool for promoting vegetarianism. Period. There is no " political agenda " here--but rather a practical objective of enabling vegetarian-minded folks to interact with one another and to share in our celebration of vegetarian values. Any policy of a democratic organization is subject to review by the individuals whom it serves. I encourage each and every one of you to become more involved with SBVS--and attend the next planning meeting that will be held in December. Our group is what we make it--and if any individuals are dissatisfied by the actions of the current leadership body--then I highly encourage them to attend a planning meeting and voice their viewpoints and propose viable alternatives. But let's not " jam-up " the SBVS listserve with dialogue and dissension--but rather with lots of vegetarian events and activities where members of our vegetarian community can interact and learn from one another, enjoy each other's company, and extoll the virtues of vegetarianism here in the South Bay and beyond! Thanks to all of you who are making the SBVS the thriving group that it is today! Phil Becker, SBVS Co-Founder
Guest guest
Sarah (forgive the repost. I intended this to go to the whole list), You make several excellent points. My only disagreement is that another list is necessary. This list exists for the SB veggie community, and it appears to be doing that quite well. By my recollection, this list is far from being overused. Whatever disagreements exist can be worked out by the reasonable members of this group. After all that's what the list is for. Let's us it for that. Dave SaKishler [saKishler] Sunday, November 30, 2003 3:04 PM Subject: Re: Let's keep a unified vegetarian community! I have an idea: 1.
