Their choice is Sto-A,the upscale all vegetarian gourmet restaurant that opened inPalo Alto this year. The simplest way to describe the restaurant is to provide a linkto a review that came in San Francisco Chronicle. Please seehttp://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/06/20/PN304514.DTLFor BAVRT, the restaurant is offering two choices.A prix fixe vegan menu ($38 + 18% gratuity + tax)

composed of- Soup: Seasonal vegetable soup ($7)- Starters: Green salad with toasted hazelnuts & Fuji appleribbons ($6.5)- Appetizers: Rice rolls with fresh herbs & peanut sauce ($9)-or-Green Mango salad with cherry tomatoes, scallions & Forbidden black rice ($12)- Main Course: Blackeyed pea fritters with olive oil mashedpotatoes & garlic-wilted greens ($19)-or-Quinoa croquettes with sautéed wild mushrooms & sesame-rubbed greens ($18)- Desserts: Chocolate sorbet with chocolate-dippedstrawberries ($7)-or-Apricot gallettes with port wine reduction ($7)Price given in brackets above is the a la carte price(set menu price is a discount compared with the priceof individual items). Please RSVP by Sep 17th and also indicate whether you wantto go for the prix fix menu or the a la carte option.---#2) Bay Area

Vegetarians (BAV)http://www.bayareaveg.orgTammy & Chris started Bay Area Vegetarians (BAV), a San FranciscoBay Area wide group for vegans, vegetarians, veg*n-inclined andinterested people to find community & support with like-mindedfolks. BAV supports, encourages & connects local veg*n communitythrough planned monthly events, online discussion forum, mailinglists and educational outreach. In the community spirit, all ofBAV events are organized by volunteers, and membership is free.Visit BAV's website for upcoming events and more information onjoining. Help BAV make the Bay Area more veg-friendly!---#3) Last month's trekAna organized an extremely successful dinner last month at Red SeaRestaurant in Oakland. BAVRT received truly red carpet treatmentfrom this restaurant. Though this was a veg/non-veg Ethiopianrestaurant, they

collected all their vegan dishes in a separatemenu, to make our ordering easier. They also cheerfully gaveseparate checks to everybody who attended.39 people attended last month's dinner. Most people gave veryhigh marks for their excellent food and superb service. Some folksraised the following items also - the acoustics of the room wasless than stellar, particularly with such a big crowd. Many peoplehad to ask to get drinking water at the table. Wonder whether thisis a cultural issue, as this has happened in other restaurants also. After dinner, we went to Mondo Gelato for vegan desserts.---#4) Car-less lifestyles by choiceLast month, I wrote a small blurb about my current car-lesslifestyle. Many folks wrote to me about their own experiments aboutgoing car-less by choice! This is not too much of a surprise, asBAVRT is composed of many highly

unconventional, independent folks.People had tried these experiments in multiple states and multiplecities. Many did this successfully for many years (some for morethan 10 years). One person mentioned about her family goingcar-less by choice, across multiple generations! Awesome...---#5) NON-BAVRT newsa) Scientists sound new climate change warninghttp://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_815816.htmlb) Plan to bury CO 2 under North seahttp://www.guardian.co.uk/climatechange/story/0,12374,1036113,00.htmlc) Hidden ingredientshttp://www.bouldernews.com/bdc/food/article/0,1713,BDC_2517_2214493,00.html"Part of vegetarian journey is learning about animal productsin unexpected places"d) RFID Gussied Up With Biosensorshttp://www.wired.com/news/privacy/0,1848,60156,00.htmle) The New Diamond
