Guest guest
I thought some of you might be interested in attending the 10:15 service at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, which will be led by Unitarian Universalists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (UFETA). Historically, religion has not been a great friend to animals, but there is some hope with Unitarian Universalism, a liberal religion with roots in social justice, anti-oppression, and non-violence. The service includes some wonderful animal stories, music that celebrates all beings, and a "sermon" that makes the connection between animal oppression and all other social justice issues. I am honored to be a voice for animals on Sunday, and I hope you can come and support what I think will be a wonderful, moving service for animals. NOTE: This 10:15 service precedes the 12:30 screening of The Witness/fundraiser for the Oakland Animal Shelter. First Unitarian Church: 685 14th St. at Castro in Oakland (directions can be found http://www.uuoakland.org/directions.htm) For the animals, Colleen ---------------------"Humans are part of the web of life. What we do to the planet, what we do to other species, and what we do to other people, we end up doing to ourselves." ~John Robbins "As long as people will shed the blood of innocent creatures there can be no peace, no liberty, no harmony between people. Slaughter and justice cannot dwell together." ~Isaac Bashevis Singer "Nonviolence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages." ~Thomas Edison "Don't do nothing because you can't do everything. Do Something.
