Hi there,

I'm new to the SouthBay Veggies group ( I found out about it at the VegFair) and this is my first time posting an e-mail to the group. I haven't made it out to any events yet - but I hope to make it to one in Santa Cruz soon.

I noticed that some members seem to be interested in Buddhism and other spiritual activities in the area ( Yoga, Sufism, etc...) Well, I thought I would mention that I have been attending Dharma talks at Land of the Medicine Buddha in Soquel, and a new program is starting up on Wednesday nights at 7pm (beginning March 12th) called Discovering Buddhism. The first month-long course is called Mind and It's Potential. It is going to be taught by Ven. Amy Miller, Tibetan Buddhist Nun and director of Vajrapani Institute. I think it sounds like a very interesting course and a great way to learn more about Buddhist philosophy.

If anyone would be interested in participating in this course on Wednesday evenings, I would like to carpool/rideshare to Land of Medicine Buddha. If enough people are interested, maybe we could get together occasionally and talk about the relationship between vegetarianism and Buddhism. I think it would be really interesting to find out how others practice socially engaged Buddhism as animal activists and vegetarians/vegans. Please e-mail me if you'd like to find out more! Or check out www.medicinebuddha.org for more details on the Discovering Buddhism program.

Thanks, and hope to hear from you guys!

Hi Jessica,

Welcome to the list.

The class looks interesting. The retreat looks

beautiful! Where would you like to carpool from?

I'm near downtown Santa Cruz (Ocean and Barson.)

Cheers,

Matthew
