On February 22 at 1:30pm, a wide of array of leaders within the animal rights movement will discuss in a forum what motivates their dedication to animal rights and how animal rights relates to scientific, medical, philosophical, legal, and political issues. The forum will be held in 100 Genetics and Plant Biology Building. Panelists: • Neal Barnard, Founder & President of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine • Steven Best, Assistant Professor & Chair of Philosophy, University of Texas, El Paso • Elliot Katz, Founder & President of In Defense of Animals • Ingrid Newkirk, Co-founder & President of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) • lauren Ornelas, Director of VIVA! USA • Paul Shapiro, Founder & Campaigns Director of Compassion Over Killing Following the forum, Berkeley Organization for Animal Advocacy will raffle off free educational materials to attendees.
