On February 22 at 1:30pm, a wide of array of leaders within the animal

rights movement will discuss in a forum what motivates their dedication to

animal rights and how animal rights relates to scientific, medical,

philosophical, legal, and political issues. The forum will be held in 100

Genetics and Plant Biology Building.

• Neal Barnard, Founder & President of Physicians Committee for

Responsible Medicine

• Steven Best, Assistant Professor & Chair of Philosophy, University of

Texas, El Paso

• Elliot Katz, Founder & President of In Defense of Animals

• Ingrid Newkirk, Co-founder & President of People for the Ethical

Treatment of Animals (PeTA)

• Paul Shapiro, Founder & Campaigns Director of Compassion Over Killing

Following the forum, Berkeley Organization for Animal Advocacy will raffle

off free educational materials to attendees. This event will be presented by

the Berkeley Organization for Animal Advocacy and In Defense of Animals.

The Berkeley Organization for Animal Advocacy (BOAA) is a non-violent

student organization dedicated to ending animal-based research at UC

Berkeley. BOAA believes UC Berkeley should be held accountable to growing

segments of the population who are aware that animal experimentation is

unjust to its victims—unjust to the animals who are used, unjust to people

who suffer as a result of vivisection's ineffectiveness, and unjust to

taxpayers and students who subsidize this research.
