ALLERGY ALERT - UNDECLARED MILK, TREE NUT, PEANUT

AND EGG PROTEIN IN D'ARTAGNAN BELGIAN CHOCOLATE

 

OTTAWA, May 5, 2003 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)

and Humeur Groupe Conseil Inc. are warning consumers with an allergy to

milk, tree nut, peanut or egg protein not to consume d'Artagnan Belgian

Chocolate Dark and White. These products may contain milk, tree nut,

peanut and egg protein that are not declared on the label. This alert is of

concern to those individuals who have an allergy to milk, tree nut, peanut or

egg protein.

 

All codes of the following d'Artagnan products are affected by this alert.

The affected products are distributed in boxes of 35 units containing various

chocolate flavours. These products may have been sold door to door as

part of fundraising events. These chocolates are manufactured by

Chocolaterie D'Artagnan, Belgium.

 

The importer, Humeur Groupe Conseil Inc., Quebec, Quebec, is voluntarily

recalling the affected products from the marketplace. These products have

been distributed in Quebec.

 

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening

reaction in persons with an allergy to milk, tree nut, peanut or egg protein.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of

these products.

 

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
