Hi All!

I'm Janet, from LI NY. My son Danny is 15mos old & we're pretty very

sure he is either allergic and or intollerant of milk, gluten, wheat,

soy & nuts.. So.... I'm looking into the vegan lifestyle for him &

then gradually us. I personally an not a big fan of meat maybe

chicken and tuna, but pretty much that's about it, so me making the

change is ok. My Hubby is another story. Thank god he's into pasta

so that won't be too bad. My daughter is 22mos (they're adopted).

She dosen't eat good at all, so changing her is going to be near

impossible. She loves eggs, cheese, yogurt & chicken. This is mostly

what she eats but I want to deal with my son first.

Anyone know any good cookies out there & snacks for the road? How

about breads & all that veggie ham & stuff... Do they make it soy

free??

thanks

Janet

Hello Janet

You are about to embark on a wonderful and trying venture.

Sadly what few meat replacement products there that do not contain wheat/gluten

do contain soy. There are a few " cheeses " made from rice or nuts but the

commercial ones usually add casein (a dairy protein) to them.

I would suggest you concentrate on eliminating one item at a time instead of

jumping into it all at once. It's very hard to go cold turkey and since she

doesn't eat well already, you may be able to see improvements after a week or so

off one particular group and then you will know where her worst problem is.

I recommend you start with gluten and try items like rice pasta. Rice is a

common enough taste in most households, so it's not too bad to switch to a rice

based one. The more uncommon grains like buckwheat, quinoa and corn can be

problematic in both taste and texture for those just starting out.

Let me know how I can help. We have been at this 7 years now, eliminating one

food allergen or another and it is a test of patients and a steep learning curve

at first.
