OTTAWA, November 20, 2002 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Humpty Dumpty Foods Inc. are warning consumers with wheat allergies not to consume No Name brand Club Pack Barbecue flavour potato chips. This product contains wheat which is not declared on the label. The affected product, No Name brand Club Pack Barbecue flavour potato chips, is sold in a 454 g package with UPC 0 60383 12074 0 bearing the lot code FE 01 G 117. The manufacturer, Humpty Dumpty Foods Inc., Montreal, Quebec is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The No Name brand Club Pack Barbecue flavour potato chips have been distributed through Loblaws and Maxi stores in Quebec only. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to wheat. This alert is also of concern to those individuals who suffer adverse reactions to gluten. There have been no reported illness associated with the consumption of this product. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
