Guest guest
Hi there, Welcome to the group. I'm also fairly new here and unfortunately I don't really post. But that's changing as of today. Good luck with the caffeine! Are you sure you don't want to try slowly coming off the caffeine? You are probably going to get headaches from the withdrawal, which won't be fun. You might also want to try gradually phasing out animal products from your diet, maybe starting with meat, then a few weeks later dairy, then eggs, then ??? I currently do not eat any dairy whatsoever, I avoid eggs as much as possible (they're the next thing to go for me), and the only meat I eat is the occasional piece of fish (also to soon be phased out). Even when I've managed that I still plan on eating honey! I also avoid wheat (which because my Dad's on a low-gluten diet is pretty easy for me). How does your daughter feel about the proposed dietary changes? Does she have any allergies? We think my sister's eczema is aggravated by dairy but we can't be sure. Hope you enjoy your time with us here! I'm sure many other people will come out of the woodwork to welcome you. Hope you have a great day! Diana Sydney, Australia P.S. I liked the quote at the bottom of your message so much I saved it to send to some of my friends. , " Donna " <dremow@h...> wrote: > Hello everyone~ > > I was so happy to find this group here as I contemplate making a > change to a 100% vegan lifestyle. Guest guest
Hi Diana from Sydney! So glad you've decided to come out of " lurkdom " ! It sounds like you are doing a great job of being in charge of your health and diet. I enjoyed your post and am wondering about a " low-gluten " diet as opposed to a " no gluten " diet (you mentioned your father). Is that for health purposes? I've really only met " all or none " people when it comes to gluten, so I find this interesting. BTW, my father visited Sydney last year and had a GREAT time! You live in a beautiful country! Guest guest
Hi LaDonna, Glad you liked my post. It's nice to be out of the darkness of lurkdom! I had a feeling that mentioning a low-gluten diet might spark a bit of interest. Here's the deal: - My Dad was advised to go on a glutenfree diet for 6 months because one of his doctors thought he had a magnesium deficiency that was making his tinnitus worse (?!). Apparently, cutting gluten out makes it easier for your body to absorb magnesium from the diet (I have no idea of the truth in this). - Dad tried it for 6 months and then went back to the doctor. The gluten levels were way down but the tinnitus was much the same! - Dad decided he didn't want to do glutenfree anymore but even now if I say " Dad, that's full of gluten " , he won't eat it! So we have wheat- free, yeast-free bread (even my Mum reports improved digestion!) and only occasionally eat wheat pasta. Because the rest of the food we eat is mostly fresh fruit and vegetables (and of course, gf cereal grains - although my parents aren't vegan, they eat, eggs, meat, and some dairy too) gluten is fairly easily avoided. The only thing Dad doesn't even think about is the malt in the soymilk that we drink. - So Dad avoids gluten where possible but if it's not, no harm done. Personally, I try and stay wheatfree because I tend to feel a bit bloated after eating wheat bread/pasta & doing ballet classes when you feel bloated is terrible! I find eating vegan and wheat free gives me the energy & nutrition I need for my lifestyle. Diana Sydney, Australia P.S.
