Guest guest
Amy (and all), Yes, our family juices daily. We use the Champion Juicer (commercial model). We juice mostly carrots, but many times we add other things to our carrot juice. I used the juicer today to make almond/hazelnut butter. It is an incredible machine. We love to put frozen fruit through to make sorbets as a dessert. (If you use frozen pineapple with the other juice, it sweetens the fruit nicely.) We juice for health and see it as a very easy way to add the enzymes that our body needs. It takes life to maintain a healthy life : ) therefore, we need to eat the raw fruits and veggies. The great thing about fresh juice is that your body utilizes the nutrients more fully because you are not losing some of the juice and nutrients through the fiber (it attaches itself to the fiber). The body can absorb the nutrients easier and quicker. We are a large family, seven of us, so to make it a little less work, we buy 5 lbs. of ready to eat baby carrots at Sam's Club. It is more expensive, but I'm afraid it wouldn't get done if I had to peel and cut 5 lbs. of carrots every day. We tried buying organic carrots in bulk from a local health food store but I hate to say, the carrots were never good. They were always bitter and had many flaws that needed to be cut out, so we don't do that anymore. We use organic when possible, but let's face it, for a family of 7, organic can get quite expensive! One of our family's favorite juices is carrot/cucumber. It is about 1 lb. of carrots and a 1/4 cucumber per serving. Another thing that is great to add that doesn't alter the sweet taste of carrot juice, is spinach. We use about 4 Cups of fresh spinach per 5 pounds of carrots. Not much juice comes out of a cup of spinach. Well, hope that helps! Have a great day. Lynnette p.s. We have other things we are dealing with over here too, besides gluten intolerance. I have terrible allergies this time of year. Adding a handful of parsley to your juice can have an antihistamine effect for hayfever.
