Guest guest Posted July 25, 2002 Report Share Posted July 25, 2002 GALA FRUIT-FILLED MELON 1 large watermelon 1 cantaloupe 1 lb. seedless grapes 3 oranges 1 ripe pineapple 3/4 c. honey (or alternative) 1/4 c. lemon juice fresh mint 1 qt. fresh strawberries, blueberries or other berries in season Cut through the watermelon lengthwise, removing about 1/3. (Refrigerate this third for future use, wrapped in foil.) Scoop out the fruit from the larger melon section in large pieces and scallop edge of watermelon to form the bowl for holding the fruit melange. Cut melon balls from the scooped- out fruit and from the cantaloupe. Prepare remaining fruit as for fruit cup, reserving some of the best berries with hulls on for garnish. Combine cut-up fruit in a large bowl and add the honey and lemon juice. Chill the melon and the cut-up fruit separately covered with foil.
