Soy hot dogs and Soyrizo

Hi again :)

I was wondering: does anyone know if " Soyrizo " is GF? I looked at the

ingredients, and they look OK to me. The only thing was the textured soy

protein. I know that textured vegetable protein is a questionable

ingredient, but is the soy protein OK?

Also, I finally found a soy hot dog that doesn't contain wheat gluten. The

brand name is " Tofu Pups " . But again, the TSP, as opposed to TVP.

I'd much appreciate any info anyone has about these 2 products.

Thanks,

Christine

Thanks for your comments about the Soyrizo, Steve. I bought it last weekend,

but then was scared to eat it, and so I haven't used it yet. But I will now,

since you didn't have a problem with it. I'm planning to cook it with

potatoes, for tacos, or to serve over rice. A Mexican friend at work

suggested this dish, and it sounded really good.

Thanks for the comments about the Tofu Pups, also. I'm having Bush's

vegetarian baked beans tonight, and I'm glad I can use the soy dogs to have

with it.

TVP is OK when it is derived exclusively from Soy.

When TVP is listed without any info about the source, I

suggest you avoid it, as it can be made from wheat gluten.

I buy and eat Soyrizo without reacting in any way.

Same comment, Textured Soy Protein, being made from soy and

therefore not being made from wheat, is OK.

I've had these TofuPups. Once. My gut did not react to them,

but my sense of taste was immensely underwhelmed.

Dear Christine,

I am so sorry you hare going throught these horrible times. I am not on

a GF diet, it is my Son and Daughter who are. My son has Celiac..and my

Daughter bad allergies ( although I am sure it is celiac). We use Tofu

Pups, and have had NO troubles with them. My children gobble them up.

We even us them to make corn dogs.. Yum Yum..

I hope that helps

Amy

When we mention a product like Soyrizo, it might be a good idea to mention

the brand. I know of three companies marketing products called " Soyrizo, "

Melissa's, Frieda's and El Burrito. I had already checked on the El Burrito

brand, which is gluten-free. When I saw this thread I went ahead and

contacted Melissa's and Frieda's, and both companies said their Soyrizo is

also gluten-free. So in this instance you're safe, unless there are more

brands that I am unaware of.

Hi Melissa,

I didn't even know that there was more than one brand that called their

product " Soyrizo " . I think the one I have is El Burrito. Thanks for

checking into those other brands. It's nice to have some convenience foods we

can still enjoy, isn't it?
