Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask something, if it's at all possible to answer. I am on a gluten-free diet now for 4 months. At first when I stopped the gluten, within 24 hours, my intestinal cramps stopped, and then 1 month later it seems that the cramps came back. I would then eliminate an additional food like potatoes and rice, which seemed to get hard in the intestines, and then I would be OK for a few days, and then the cramps came back. At this point I don't even know what to eat. My question is: Is it common to feel this uncomfortable, until the intestines mend inside? I am kind of losing my confidence and am beginning to think that I am in serious trouble. By cramps I mean that, the intestines feel kind of sore inside. Bye for now, Marie
Guest guest
Hi Marie I'm sorry that you are still having problems with what you eat. > My question is: Is it common to feel this uncomfortable, until > the intestines mend inside? I am kind of losing my confidence > and am beginning to think that I am in serious trouble. I have been GF about five years now. I still get the sensation of my gut feeling fussy, or ready to cramp, maybe once or twice a week. It is much less severe and less common too than it was in my first year of being GF. After 3 or 4 months of eating GF, I was at my peak of sensitivity. I hope you are not being exposed to traces of gluten from any prepared foods you might be eating. I certainly find that I do much better when I rely on my own home cooked meals. Fortunately for me, I work from home these days, so a majority of my meals are prepared from scratch at home by myself or my vegan partner. Are you certain that you are avoiding incidental sources of gluten, such as soy sauce in prepared foods, or malt flavoring in cereals? Just four months after such a major change in the way you eat, I suspect that your body is still going through some changes. My guess is that in another four months you'll be feeling much, much better.
