OAT WALNUT BURGERS4 cups water

1/2 Bragg’s Liquid Aminos (or soy sauce)

1 cup finely chopped walnuts

1/4 cup nutritional yeast

1 T. basil

1 tsp. onion powder

1 tsp. coriander (I didn’t use this)

1 tsp. sage

4 cups rolled oats

Combine all ingredients except rolled oats in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

Stir in oats. Remove from heat and set aside until cool. Make 1/4-1/2 cup

sized patties. Bake on oiled cookie sheet for 12-15 minutes at 350’.

Notes:

I made these gf by using 1/2 buckwheat flakes and 1/2 rice flakes. They were

great!

These are very, very good and are so much cheaper than the burgers you buy in

the store. This recipe makes a lot. I took the extra and put it in a freezer

bag in the freezer.

I used the walnuts but if you don’t want to you could probably try to replace

them with a coarse rice cereal (like cream of rice but courser) or maybe soy

grits or Nutlettes might even work. It makes so many burgers that there

really isn’t much fat in a burger so the walnuts really get spread out. I

really like the flavor of having them in there.

As far as shaping the burgers, they are sticky. If you have a burger press

you can use that. Or if you have a ring from a canning jar or a ring from a

food chopper (that’s what I used) then you can use those. I put the ring on

the cookie sheet and then cover a can with wax paper (secured it with a

rubber band), spoon a little of the oat mixture into the ring and pressed it

down with the can. It came out perfectly and it was very easy.
