I believe that I know where the vegetarians and fish

may have come from. Many of us became vegetarians due

to brushes with Hinduism in the west in the 1960's and

70's. When Hindus [i am connected to Self REalization

Fellowship] encourage people to eat a vegetarian diet,

I think that they really want to not eat fish or

poultry, but as people transition to vegetarianism,

especially in the west where there is less of a

vegetarian tradition, I have been told that we need to

eliminate beef, pork, and lamb first. Then you are

expected to eliminate poultry [birds] and finally fish

and eggs. With Hindus, milk consumption is not an

issue, but we in the West look at how badly cows are

treated to get milk and cheese, and shudder. I try to

buy only organic milk products to mitigate that

somewhat.
