Guest guest
Greetings all I have just recently joined after being invited, thank you. I have worked in several restaurants over the years as well as studying nutrition as a hobby for about 15 yrs. I wanted my first post to be one of encouragement. So I decided to let you know about a very yummy dish the owner of fast Greek Food stall and I came up with for the vegetarians. Veggie Donair 1) Spead 1 whole warmed pita with Hommous 2) Top with:Hommous Taboili 2 meatless Dolmades Chopped Tomato Tzatziki sauce 3) Roll and eat I have also since becoming a vegetarian developed meatless versions of the Donair meat which I will post another time. Enjoy Greg

I think you may like this list - we have several people on the list who are professional chefs and others who are dieticians, nutritionists, etc. > I wanted my first post to be one of encouragement. Something to bear in mind next time I'm out and wanting to ask for a sandwich *without* the baby sheep. Good idea. Greek snacks are tailor-made for vegetarians - if one avoids the me*t, of course LOL Likewise Turkish, Lebanese, etc. Some like to use drained, pressed and once-frozen firm tofu for protein in a sandwich like this one rather than more grain (the rice dolmades) - or of course marinated TVP chunks. Which leads me to ask whether anyone out there has a favourite home marinade to use for this kind of thing??? Btw, careful with the amounts of hummous and tzatziki on the sandwich when making at home - the sannie is great for using up leftover greek food, but commercial hummous can be very high in oil, and tzatziki likewise higher in dairy fat that would be consistent with a low-fat list if enough were used to be able to taste it! For a low-fat version of hummous, you might try the Files - I put a 'chickpea spread' in there a couple of years back in the folder marked Lunches And Snacks, and there are undoubtedly others. Gotta search those files again - some of the recipes I have forgotten and they are positively delish! Best, Pat
