Hi everyone!

I thought I'd see if I could get some help from our wise group with

this, I can't seem to get an answer. Does anyone know what sauce is

most commonly used when you get " Mixed Vegetables " (usually carrots,

water chestnuts, bok choy, etc) in a chinese restaurant. The sauce I

am referring to is a clear/white thickish sauce. I was eating mixed

vegis from a Chinese place where I work, but they were making me

nauseated...so a friend told me " Oh there's oyster sauce in them "

which of course made me upset because I'm a vegetarian. But then

another friend chimed in, " Oyster sauce is brown, not clear like

that " . I just wanted to know, I'm not going to eat these vegis

again...regardless.

I was in another Chinese restaurant and they couldn't give me a

straight answer, and I didn't want to get too militant " TELL ME IF

THERE'S ANIMAL IN THIS " etc. : )

Any help would be appreciated. I tried to " google " this with no

success.

Hi Suzanne,

Many Chinese restaurants use chicken fat and/or chicken broth in

their sauces over vegetables. I, too, have been in places where I

have asked and have gotten questionable responses, and after

ordering the dish I've found out there was a meat product of some

sort in it. I don't think people necessarily are being dishonest.

Sometimes the folks waiting on us really don't KNOW for sure what is

in the foods they are serving us, and if folks don't SEE meat, they

assume no meat products.
