Guest guest
Was evaluated by the Curves for Women physician recently, via a survey I completed. It came back with the standard for the day, " carb sensitive " . I was given a book for counting protein, carbs, fat and calories for nearly every food known to mankind..lol. I was told to eat less than 30g. of carbs a day and no more than 1200 calories. I knew this was going to be next to impossible, but agreed to give it a chance. For one day I was only able to eat 1 cup of lettuce (there were shredded carrots in the salad mix), with a 1/4 c shredded colby/jack cheese, 1 T of low fat Ranch Dressing, one Morning Star Farms Chick Pattie and a 1/4 c honey dew melon. According to their doctor, that was 33.6g carbs and 339 calories. They decided at Curves that being Vegetarian and maintaining a traditional low carb diet was nearly impossible. (I'd been saying that for some time now.) I know that it's important to get good fats, good carbs and enough calories to sustain my body through all my activity, so I don't go into " starvation mode. " " Moderation " is the key, not removing specific things from the diet all together. The plus here is, the Manager of Curves is educating herself on Vegetarianism, in fact, they are going to start a vegetarian weight management class in Sept. She borrowed some of my reading material to educate herself and apologized for the fact that neither herself nor her staff were educated on alternative lifestyles such as vegetarianism or being vegan. She commented on how everyone seems to apply a " cookie cutter " mentality to weight loss, thinking if it works for most it will work for all. This has been a good experience for me and a chance to educate others. Always find the good in a situation, if you look long enough, you'll find it.
