Guest guest
Hi everybody My grandmother used to make a dish called Steam Slaw. It had cabbage, sweet vingar, onions and some other ingredients that I can't remember. Does this sound familar to anyone? I would love to know how it was made. Guest guest
I modified a recipe from an old Betty Crocker Cookbook that sounds like something you would like. One medium head red cabbage (shredded or chopped fine) ¼ cup water in pot 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour ¼ cup water in small jar with lid ¼ cup vinegar or lemon juice ¼ cup raw sugar or barley malt Dash of salt Dash of pepper 1 teaspoon whole fennel seeds Using a large cooking pot and lid… Put ¼ cup water into pot, add cabbage and steam over med.high for 5 minutes or until rather tender. During that 5 minutes.. Use a glass jar to shake 1/4 cold water with the 2 T flour. Mix well. Pour all the remaining ingredients together with the cooked cabbage and simmer 3 minutes stirring to avoid lumps. I like it hot or cold. Travels well as a lunch too. (You might sauté a sliced onion until tender in the big pot prior to adding the cabbage) ..Teresa M. _____
