Guest guest Posted April 24, 2005 Report Share Posted April 24, 2005 I made this last night. It really is yummy and despite the name of the recipe, it's only 4% (0.7 grams) fat per serving. God's Peace, Gayle Bavarian Chocolate Struessel Crispy and chewy dessert that travels well 1 C unbleached flour ¾ C whole wheat flour 1¼ C succanat or sugar 1/3 C cocoa powder 2 t baking soda 1½ C unsweetened applesauce ¾ C soy or rice milk 2 t vanilla extract Topping: 1½ C quick-cooking oats ¼ C whole wheat flour ¼ C succanat or brown sugar ¼ C chocolate syrup Preheat oven to 325 F. Topping: combine oats and brown sugar, add chocolate syrup, stir till moist and crumbly. Set aside. Combine flours, sugar cocoa and baking soda, stir to mix well. Add applesauce, milk, vanilla and stir till well mixed. Spread batter evenly in a nonstick 8 X 13 " baking pan and then coat with topping. Bake at 325 for about 50 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick stuck in the middle comes out clean. Cool to room temperature, cut into squares. 18 servings, each 146 calories: 4% from fat (0.7 g), 88% from carbohydrates (33 g), 4% from protein (3 g). Sodium 102 mg, Fiber 2.3 g.
