Guest guest
Hi hon - So sorry to hear about your five-year-olds broken arm! That's so upsetting for everyone - not to mention very painful for a little girl! :=( Hope she's feeling a bit better today. > I must the most jinxed person around or I am doing something wrong. > For the past 5 years some member of my immediate family has broken > either a leg or an arm. How could you be doing something wrong??? Bad choice of family? I don't think so LOL Must be a jinx, then - nothing to do ;=) Seriously, people do break bones - especially ski fiends and active but carefree kids (or so I'm told). Your son's problem is difficult for him to accept, clearly, but not your fault, and unless you helped your husband off the cliff . .. . No? Okay ;=) I'm sure you're feeding them all the right things for strong bones. Calcium - sure - as long as the amount of animal protein doesn't 'cancel it out' - in green leafy veggies - but all that you know. Soy is reputed to be good - and beans in general - as a good protein that doesn't work against the calcium, as it were ;= ) And don't forget the vitamin D which the body needs in order to use the calcium. (But I'm sure you're feeding your kids right and seeing they get all their vitamins from their diet!) Try googling. Then just type in something like brittle bones diet. I did and came up with all sorts of interesting stuff. We all worry a bit about getting brittle bones. Weight-bearing exercises are what helps us big kids in the long run - adds to bone density and all that stuff - but you'd think kids would be getting all that in their normal activities. > So any tips and suggestions for dealing with yet another year to the > broken bone curse? <sigh> Definitely a curse. As I say, clearly nothing to be done! LOL Tell ya what: tie em up and stick em in front of the TV - especially your son! - well padded in cotton wool - until they're at least 30. Then they can break bones on their own time not yours ;=) No? I'd suggest two things, then: I'd say to someone belonging to me to stop punishing themselves by saying they must be doing something wrong - say it often enough and they'll believe it and then they will act that way. Not a good idea. And I'd tell them to stop even pretending they believe in jinxes and curses - I know it's making light of it, joking about something that's upsetting, but you'd not be surprised if I told you I have seen umpteen accidents happen soon after people have declared themselves to be clumsy, jinxed, cursed, blah blah blah. Okay? ;=) Okay, big hugs now and go and give your little girl a hug too from me! Best love, Pat ;=)
