Guest guest
Welcome to two Canadians (wotta coincidence!) who have just joined the group ;=) Joy has been Veggie for 20 yrs (like me, although I had relapses in the past) and Lee is just becoming a vegetarian. Congratulations to both of you! We really hope you enjoy this group. We've been together nearly two years now, some of us, and like to chat about food, recipes, weight and health issues and about just being a vegetarian ;=) Just join in anywhere - we don't stand on ceremony here! Joy writes that she enjoys Indian and Thai food - that's great, because so do I! My doctor told me years ago that Thai cuisine was one of the healthiest in the world, which was funny because that's what I'd been trying to tell her for quite some time. I was so relieved when she 'discovered' it! LOL (Of course, it's a good idea to go easy on the coconut milk!) As for Indian, I do a seriously low- fat version of Indian food at home - no ghee at all, because, well, it's not a health-conscious choice - and minimal oil. Mmmmmm I'll have to post some more recipes ;=) Lee says: > I want to find more a more humane food lifestyle. I've been raised on meat > all my life though, it'll be tough to convert to a non-meat lifestyle, but I > don't eat much meat to begin with anyway, so I think I can handle it if I > slow down a little bit at a time. What a lot of people do, if they don't cut it out at all once, is to cut out the red meat first. Try it for a week. Then the poultry. I dunno about fish and sealife - some people find that hardest to give up, some easiest. You'll have to decide yourself how that applies to you. BUT, if you want to do it the less painful way, just say to yourself No More Meat - and stick to it. If you are still with your family or seeing them frequently, it's difficult, but easier to say No to meat altogether than to get pickier and pickier gradually, you know? Because they'll argue that you ate this dish last week so what's wrong with it now, isn't it well cooked? etc. Explain that you're vegetarian for the animals AND for health ;=) And good luck. >I'm also not much of a vegtable lover . . . And I promise, you'll learn to like vegetables - they're soooo good when you can taste them without the me*t. So! Welcome to you both ;=) And have a good luck at our webpage, won't you, and post often. We want to hear how things are for both of you.
