Guest guest
I found an awesome cookie recipe that calls for 1/2c sucanat. Can I use 1/2c sugar (**ducking the slaps**) instead or (like all other sugar subtitutes) does it not translate so easily? Please don't hurt me for not being vegan. Guest guest
Hi Beth - Sugar is vegan, as long as it isn't processed through bone char, which most commercial sugars are. Florida Crystals does not use this process, so their sugar is safe. Karen , Beth Renzetti <elmothree2000> wrote: > I found an awesome cookie recipe that calls for 1/2c sucanat. Guest guest
Beth, Sucanat is a natural sugar, not refined to white sugar. It should be a little bit healthier, since there should be at least some minerals in it.
Guest guest
Can I use it measure for measure; (for example) 1/2c sugar = 1/2c sucanat or no? Guest guest
You can use it like sugar or use a little less. It seems a little sweeter than white sugar, more like brown sugar, but maybe not that sweet. Also - Beet sugar (eg. Pioneer brand) is not filtered with bone char, and so it is vegan, but it is totally non-complex carbohydrate with no food value. That can be used 1 for 1 like Domino or other cane sugar.
