Guest guest
Very interesting article. Thank you for sharing. I'm curious - why do people give up eggs & dairy since animals are not sacrificed for these products? Is it for personal health & taste more than being a strict vegetarian? dipankar deb <dipankar_deb_2000 wrote: Hi everyone, may our tribe increase...this article was interestingto me..some facts and numbers on vegeterianshttp://www.swaveda.com/articles.php?action=show & id=39 New and Improved Mail - Send 10MB messages! Guest guest
Beth, Speaking strictly for myself here, I won't eat anything that comes from disease infested animals that are also mistreated and pumped up with chemical and hormones. The only animal that should drink cow's milk is baby cows. Think about it. Although egg-laying chickens are not sacrificed, they are without a doubt the most mistreated of all farm animals. Guest guest
Hi Beth- I'll try to explain that one. Basically, the animals in egg and dairy production lead a longer life, yes, than slaughterhouse animals, but they are usually treated poorly therefore making it a poor life and when their ability to " produce " wanes (usually only after a few years), they are sold for meat, or byproducts, etc. The dairy industry actually perpetuates the veal industry since cows must be kept perpetually prenant, since only pregnant cows lactate thereby creating milk and when the calves born are males, they are used for veal and kept in crates and deprived of certain vitamins and nutrients in order to make the meat more " tender " and " tasty " . Obviously female calves are used for dairy and impregnated asap or sold for meat to slaughterhouses. So no I'm not actually eating an animal by consuming eggs/dairy but I am contributing to a series of practices that go against my beliefs. Anyhow, those are the basics, and the reasons that I gave up egg and dairy. I could go on here, but if you'd like to know more details, feel free to visit my site at http://www.compassionateplanet.com and click on the 4th link that says " ways to help " . There's info on egg and dairy as well as on the free-range myths. Hope this helped! Best, -Rebecca --- Beth Renzetti <elmothree2000 wrote: > Very interesting article. Guest guest
I am a person that eats dairy and eggs. I have rationalized that it was less harmful than eating meat. I realize there is a flaw in my argument. I mean, less harm is still harm. I have also rationalized on a utilitarian basis. The time, effort, and access to be a vegan present psychological barriers. I am 56. I gave up meat 32 years ago. I live with a wife and son that consume flesh. Positive reinforcement in my life with regards to being vegan is practically nonexistent. But I am becoming increasingly less happy with my own contradictions. Peace, Jerry ===== May the next person you meet see compassion in your eyes. Guest guest
Re this subject - why some people do or don't use dairy - I've just added a couple of Links to the Links page (where else!): http://notmilk.com/ The NotMilk Homepage http://www.milksucks.com/ MilkSucks.com Filed under Veg and Vegan Info (or whatever that folder is called ;=)). Best, Pat ;=)
