Hi Everyone,

Woke up this morning and discovered that I had indeed lived through

Mother's Day for yet another year ;=) How about you? This is my Question of

the Week:

Did you survive Mother's Day without having to have a crisis with family or

friends and without feeling guilty for eating (or refusing to eat) food prepared

for you that is inapprorpriate either to your vegetarian lifestyle or (for those

who it applies to) to your weightloss program?

Best love,

Pat ;=)

We survived -- although I was the one doing all the cooking yesterday! My mom came home from the hospital a week ago tomorrow following surgery on her left leg to alleviate two blockages. I began cooking Saturday night, finished yesterday morning, and drove everything (along with my husband, children, and dog!) about 50 miles to my parents' home. My sister came, too (she's 16 years older than I but doesn't really live up to the moniker "oldest child"), and my parents' good friends, who just built a home next door to them. Chicken pie for the non-vegetarians, fresh asparagus with a dijon mustard vinaigrette. Fresh strawberries. Homemade angel food cake (my grandmother's recipe) and fresh whipped cream. Not low-cal. Not totally vegetarian. But everyone ate their fill and there weren't (too many) moments of flaring tempers (okay, mine was the worst, as my sister tends to drive me nuts. But I'm the one with the "responsible child" nametag!). Came home to finish cleaning the kitchen, to write the national Welsh Terrier breed club newsletter, and to collapse into bed. Woke this morning to a sick child (the *other* child was sick the end of last week). So I'm home today from work, enjoying my son and the dog.

Take care, all,

pj

Hiya Pat...

I made it through the day just fine! Had a nice quiet brunch at my FAV. veggie restraunt with my husband, and then a really great veggie pizza at dinner with my son (who came out sick just to see me!) at my other son's pizza shop. Saw my daughter on Saturday morning at the farmers market where we bought Johnny Jump Ups and had coffee! My mother in law is out of town, so it was a GLORIOUS mothers day! No compromises or fights!

Hi Paula!

And didn't you just have the Mother's Day from hell! Family gatherings of this

sort can be soooo stressful. Glad your mother is out of hospital, sorry your

sister is such an impossible @#@#%@* and very sorry your kids are sick ;=(

Now, what are you going to do nice for yourself?????

Best love as always. Take care!

Now that's what I call a perfect 'holiday' celebration: just enough family to

make you feel loved and needed and appreciated and not enough to make

you wish you weren't!

Sounds cool to me. Maybe Mother's Day is okay for most people . . .

Best,

Pat ;=)
