Guest guest
Hi there Can I say something about this topic? I am a vegetarian all the way...heart and soul. I have been veg for 18 years and plan to stay on it the rest of my life. I do not eat meat because I can't stand how the animals suffer...also can't stand the other ethical issues (environment, loss of family farms, waste of food, etc. etc.). I also LOVE my veganish diet. I love beans, whole grains and veggies. I also have similiar feelings about Atkins that many veggie's do. I don't think the Atkins diet is healthy in the long run, I don't think it brings overall wellness and I think it's not a very thoughtful or spiritual diet. HOWEVER, I still don't discount everything he said. I am still open to possible small truths of this diet. I disagree that our protein should come from animals and I disagree that that squash and other carbohydrate veggies are bad for you...but I do think there is a couple of truths, that I have found personally, to be true about the lower carbohydrate diets. I have found that if I eat more protein (in the form of beans, of course!) and sometimes fat I am satiated longer which alllows me to eat less. Sometimes ALOT less. The other truth I have found is that too much of carbohydrates (such as bread and squash) as compared to greens and protein is not a balanced meal and is not too healthy. Don't get me wrong... I LOVE my brown rice and I LOVE bread....but I have found that too much carbos not mixed in with other kinds of foods is not healthy. I have noticed a distinct difference in how I feel if I eat, let's say, a green salad with tofu chunks as opposed to a pasta lunch...I've noticed a BIG difference. My energy does go down and I just don't feel the same well-being. And wheat...I just don't do well with wheat...even though I love bread. Do we have to be so close minded? I don't think it helps our cause to totally deny everything the other diet gurus say. Also, I think we should support a low carbohydrate vegan diet for those who need it. It can't hurt. It may bring more people to the vegan/vegetarian diet which would do wonders in our world. Guest guest
Sorry! Was I being closed minded in recommending a balanced diet? I think I= said that it did indeed seem possible to 'do' Atk*ns (love that spelling of= the name - so indulge me!) as a vegetarian but that I thought it was too bad th= at the web page advocated cutting back on some veggies (which would be unbalanced as a diet) in order to stay within the carb lilmit. I also find= , by the way, as do you, that I feel better after a good mix of veg with tofu (as yo= u give as example) than on a plate of spaghetti - but of course just spag and a ve= g/ tomato sauce isn't too well balanced either ;=) As I said, I am not trying to start a controversy here - honestly not *lol*= And if I sounded rather emphatic, please put it down to the mood I am in these days = on the little blue pills I have to take to cope with the extreme back pain = after my recent accident. It makes me into a Jekyll-Hyde kinda gal - well, not qu= ite, but you get the picture ;=) It's good to keep an open mind about things until you have checked them out= or others who are in the know have checked them out. I agree. Atk*ns, however, usually comes up with a negative judgment. In the case of Megan's = suggestion, however, I don't see that it would hurt to try the veggie vers= ion for a short time and see how you get along ;=) She's obviously looked carefully= into it and I would certainly trust her view. Me, I've looked into it too - but I'm not a nutritionist, dietician, or med= ical practitioner :=( Best of luck - no harm intended in my last post. Chat later? Best, Pat ;=) , Soliel <happyyogi2003> wrote: > Hi there > > Can I say something about this topic? I am a vegetarian all the way...he= art and soul.
