hi all

i used to love cows milk, and soy at first tasted yuch......but i have been having soy milk in my tea every day even at work for a year.....so i have got used to the taste.......and now when i am wanting a glass of chilled milk, i have one, i have got used to it, and i think as i drink it that some poor cow isnt permanently lactating in acow shed to bring it to my glass.........and as a woman who breast fed for 7 months, i kinda feel in sympathy with the cow........soy milk, chilled now tastes yummy.......

the other thing i wanted to ask you all about...pressure from family about our weight.....i speak to my mum several times a week and we invariably get onto my weight.....my mum is a very glamorous 64 yr old, blonde hair, all coordinated and i think she wants me to be the same....this is maybe natural but the pressure about what i eat, etc is putting me off wanting to do it myself for myself, because i feel like she is saying i am unacceptable as i am...does that sound wierd to you all??......i dont ever fall out with my mum so i have beentrying to change the subject but this evening she suggested that i go get thyroid testing done about my weight, and thats not the problem.......i need to deal with the emotional stuff about my weight, on my own with the support of this list.....

i have been walking 3 miles a day and slow weight loss is important, because i have had depression in the past and drastic weight loss or yo yo dieting can effect mood and i am not prepared to diet fast to please anyone........

Catherine,

It's definitely "okay" to discuss these issues -- please feel free to do so at any time!

Whatever your weight, it needs to be the right weight *for you* -- that's my opinion. My weight is well within the "standard," but it isn't where I'm comfortable, so I'm working to lose some. It's for me, not for anyone else. Your mother is always your mother, but you don't have to agree on everything. My mom, too, is always dressed, with hair and makeup done. I'm not like that. So we sometimes "agree to disagree." Perhaps you and your mom can reach that point at some time in the future. It took me a long time to get there ...

Take care,

Paula J.
