For the most part I do those things (eating the whole grains and things) and make allowances for splurges. If I know I am going to splurge on a refined item I eat less carbs the rest of the day. I'll keep playing with it to see if I can figure out exactly what is setting the swings off. Could just be my body adjusting to the higher carb count and it will even itself out.
