Guest guest
Have been running around trying to finish the holiday shopping. Most of this part of the state is anticipating another storm tonight and tomorrow, with freezing rain and snow, so the stores are overrun with people "stocking up." This made me think and there are a couple of thread possibilities here: 1. What are your basics, your staples for a) freezer b) pantry 2. What are the items you absolutely cannot be without in your house? Example, if you couldn't get out of the house for 2-3 days, what could you not be without? eg, peanut butter or popcorn! I had another thought but can't find the scrap of paper I scribbled it on in the car, so will write again in a few ... Paula J. Guest guest
Good idea, Paula! ;=) Okay, staples for the freezer (just the one in my fridge) are: homemade bread (in a couple of varieties - wholewheat with walnuts, Boston Brown with raisins, or some such), pre-cooked beans (kidney, garbanzo, turtle/black), tempeh, tofu, homemade all-purpose Italian-style sauce, homemade soups and stocks. For the pantry: nuts, dried fruit, lentils, rice, quinoa, noodles, various flours, tvp, canned tomatoes. Is that it? Maybe. Lots of other things in there, but those are the ones we really really need all the time to go with what's in the crisper.
