Correction. Pat does not eat chips and dip, but she doesn't despise

people who do either. Pat also is not the one who is bravely trying to

shed 100 pounds. Pat is trying to shed 15 or 20 pounds. Pat is also fed

up with this foolishness. Actually, Ron, talking to a fence post or a

door knob might be a good idea - you'd do a great deal ess harm.

pat

And may I just point out, in the interests of semantics, correct usage,

general education, etc., that the following message is an example of what

one would correctly call a flame.

I have been "giving it a break" since you joined the group. I have done everything I could to keep my mouth shut and I could only do it till now. You need to remember that these posts are read by everyone, not just those you want to target. I can respond to anything I feel the need to just as you have been doing. I feel targeted by the things you say even when they don't apply to me because of how they are said. I don't have any weight to lose and your comments disturb me so I can only imagion what someone who does need to lose must be feeling.

While that may possibly be true for a small majority, I do not think it fits everyone out there. You are preaching a BETTER way in your opinion to fix this problem and it feels to me at least that you are saying people can't do it on their own when it is the only way they know how... There are many people who have done it and kept the weight off by themselves, without giving up sugar.

Well, i agree with you there, and i have to be honest too and say

that i don't believe you understand what i'm talking about either.

I'm very sorry about this as this never happens to me in " real

life " . Especially as i work in mental health (i'd be sacked!)

I think i know where we're going wrong though. I live in the UK and

its very different to the USA. We use different words to you, so i

think this is where the problem is. i should think more before i

post in future.

I think your last posts have clarified this for me, as what you talk

about as a diet, and i guess what you were talking about when you

said diets don't work, is what we'd call a " fad diet " or

a " celebrity diet " . Such as that sugar diet you mentioned which, i

agree, was apalling!!!

So i'm sorry i was a bit confused by the different use of the word.

also i guess working in health i'm used to referring to anything

people eat as their diet.

So, in this context i totally agree with you - these kinds of diets

don't work.

Also i think that there are other differences in the way we think

which are largely cultural. I'm not sure about this but i'm pretty

sure there are more overweight people living on fast food in the USA

than the UK. So your posts about people who can't control what they

eat and crave sugar and fat doesn't really ring true to me over here

in the UK. Most people i know eat reasonably healthy diets.

When i talk about diet i do mean the physical aspects. To me, thats

what diet is about. I do believe that people's relationship with

food is complex and has emotional aspects though. I think that you

can't ignore that. Thats why we're here to try and offer each other

support, but the group is to discuss the practicalities of the

physical aspects.

> You also appear to be " flaming " similar to the way I was last

week,

> for the following reason...

I really am very sorry if i came across as " flaming " . I really

didn't mean to. I thought that i had responded in the same direct

tone that you use in your postings. I had a pretty stressful day,

and to be honest when i come home and spend my few free hours wading

through postings which appear negative, it makes me sad. So i

really sincerely apologise to everyone for this! I'm so sorry!

But i do have to say i don't agree with your last comment. I'll try

to be polite but i don't like being told why i'm thinking or acting

the way i am. Only i know that. ;)

I should finish by saying i'm sorry that this mail is so long but i

felt so bad that i had been interpretted that way that i had to

explain. Ron, despite the way i came across, i do really think you

are doing very well with your diet, and more than that, the way you

have taken to exercise. It really is admirable. I had no intention

to cause harm. I guess it was just a misunderstanding of what you

meant and a bad day at work!
