Recipe By :Flavors of the Southwest, Robert Oser Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Flavors of the Southwest Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- TEMPEH BACON: 1/3 cup toasted sesame oil -- (approximately) 1 8 oz package tempeh -- thinly sliced (making about 25 slices) 2 tablespoons tamari salt free vegetable seasoning to taste REMAINING INGREDIENTS: 8 slices whole-grain toast lettuce, tomato, and onion slices for 4 sandwiches mustard or mayo To make the tempeh bacon, heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add about 2 tablespoons of the oil. Fry the tempeh slices until crispy. Add more oil as it becomes necessary, but always try to use as you can get by with. Turn and fry on the other side. Remove from the heat and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle lightly with tamari and vegetable seasoning. Serve on slices of toasted whole-grain bread with lettuce, tomato, and onion slices (optional). Spread toast with mustard or mayo.
