Guest guest
Joanne: I forgot to answer you about the sauce. The sauce is not really necessary -- the potatoes are great on their own. If you want a sauce though, the closest thing to this Greek sauce we get is, maybe, and only sort of -- like Ranch dressing. You could use Tzaziki Sauce too, I suppose. For anyone who lives in the Atlanta, GA area, the sauce is " Nick's Grecian Sauce " sold at Grecian Gyros in Hapeville. It's just a " hole in the wall " place. My husband works at the airport and sometimes goes there for lunch. He describes Nick as being sort of like the " Soup Nazi " on the old Seinfeld show. :-) Nick will not divulge the exact ingredients of the sauce, but the ingredient list mentions mayonnaise, sour cream, and various spices (most unnamed). I might see if my Greek next-door neighbor (who is a cook/kitchen manager at a Greek restaurant) can figure it out and duplicate the sauce! We also use the sauce on falafel and pita sandwiches. It is SO good -- one of our favorite things. Karen jodnsimon wrote: > Hi, what if I can't find the greek sauce or seasoning? Thanks.
Guest guest
Thanks Karen for all your help and inspiration! I did find the Cavenders seasoning after searching for five minutes in the spice section of my grocery store and almost giving up. I prepared a yummy Greek dinner on Good Friday complete with Avgolemono Soup, a huge Greek salad, your roasted potatoes (used the frozen red potato wedges to save time), a great garlicky cucumber sauce, green beans with lemon, french bread and of course, the Greek wines & apertifs. It was fun. I actually worked in a rather upscale Greek restaurant all through college and the food (especially Spanikopita) probably kept this starving student alive. Thanks again Karen!
