It's handy to have around, and it holds well, so make enough to fill a jar and store it in your pantry or refrigerator. Combine everything but the cornstarch and cold water in a small saucepan; simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes. Dissolve the cornstach in the cold water and whisk the mixture into the sauce. Bring the sauce to a quick boil for 1 minute and continue to whisk. The cornstarch will bind the sauce ever so slightly and give it a silky texture. Remove from the heat and cool, allowing the ginger to steep in the sauce uuntil you're ready to store it. Strain out the ginger and store the sauce in a sealed jar in the refrigerator. It will keep for several weeks.
