Guest guest Posted April 3, 2001 Report Share Posted April 3, 2001 * Exported from MasterCook * Sesame Tomato Sauce Recipe By : The High Road to Health by Wagner and Spade, page 162 Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Sauces And Marinades Vegetables Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 teaspoon cold-pressed olive oil 1 medium onion -- finely chopped 2 cloves garlic -- chopped 28 ounces canned tomatoes -- chopped 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil 3 tablespoons soy sauce 3 tablespoons barley malt syrup 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 dash ginger Makes 4 cups This sauce is a pleasant alternative to traditional spaghetti sauces. It has a light and interesting taste. 1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Add the onion and garlic and cook, covered, over medium heat until the onion is limp and translucent, about 10 minutes. If the onion starts to brown, reduce the heat. 2. Add all the other ingredients and cook, covered, for 30 minutes. Remove the cover and cook for 10 minutes more to boil away excess liquid. The sauce will be chunky.
