Makes: 1/3 cup. This is one of the simple sambals, which you sprinkle on top of dishes. It's also divine stirred into mashed potatoes. 1. Pour oil 1 inch deep into a 1 1/2-quart saucepan. Heat over medium-high until oil bubbles when a slice of onion is dropped in. Add 1/2 of the onions to the pan. Cook until very well browned. 2. Remove from pot with slotted spoon.
