I believe that golden syrup is corn syrup where molasses is made from sugar

cane juice boiled to death....

Golden syrup, treacle and molasses are all produced from sugar cane. They

are more commonly used in countries like Britain and it's former colonies,

whereas corn syrup (which is much more viscous than golden syrup and so is

good in fudgy things) seems to be American.
