Dare I admit I have an entire cookbook devoted to my dogs? These are from the

web, and I haven't checked to be sure all traces of *meat* are missing, but I

chose some that sounded meatless-

Banana Mutt Cookies

1 1/2 cups ripe mashed bananas

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

3 cups oats

1/2 cup chopped peanuts

1/4 cup applesauce

 

Makes about 20 mutt pleasers.

 

Preheat oven to 350°F.

 

Mix all ingredients together thoroughly.

 

Drop spoonfuls on the mixture onto an ungreased baking sheet, and press flat

with a fork.

 

Bake for approximately 15 minutes, then cool on a rack before serving.

Store in an airtight container.

Bath Bribes

1 egg

1 1/4 cups skim milk

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour

1/2 cup bran flakes

1/2 cup raisins

1/4 cup pecans

 

Makes 10 water - free, after - bath rewards.

 

Preheat oven to 375°F.

 

In a mixing bowl, combine egg, milk and oil.

 

Stir in baking powder, baking soda, flour and bran flakes. Mix well, then

fold in raisins and pecans.

 

Spoon into a greased muffin tin so that cups are three-quarters full and

bake for 25 minutes. Cool before serving and store in a sealed container.

Blue Blue Berry Berry Bun Buns

1 cup skim milk

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/3 cup honey

1 egg

2 1/3 cups white flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries

 

Makes a dozen berry, berry delicious muffins.

 

Preheat oven to 375°F.

 

In mixing bowl, combine milk, oil and honey. Add egg and blend well.

 

Combine flour and baking powder in a separate bowl and add to wet

ingredients. Stir together thoroughly.

 

Add vanilla and fold in blueberries.

 

Grease a muffin tin and fill two-thirds full.

 

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a

muffin comes out clean. Cool before serving and store in a sealed

Bow Vows Amour Cake

8 ounces low-fat cream cheese

3/4 cup honey

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 eggs

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

1/2 cup sliced almonds

 

Makes an 8 - inch wedding night delight.

 

Preheat oven to 350°F.

 

Beat cream cheese with an electric blender until smooth, then beat in honey

until blended.

 

Sprinkle in cornstarch while using the mixer on low speed. Add eggs and

vanilla and beat until well blended.

 

Pour into an 8-inch greased spring-form pan and bake for 35 minutes or until

the edges of the cake are lightly browned. Turn out of the pan and cool on

a rack.

 

Garnish the cake with sliced almonds and store in a sealed container.

Easter Morning Heavenly Manna

6 slices white bread

8 ounces low-fat cream cheese -- cubed

4 eggs

1 1/4 cups skim milk

1/3 cup honey

 

Bakes up to 12 squares of saintly goodness.

 

Preheat oven to 375°F.

 

Tear bread slices into cubes and toss lightly with cream cheese cubes.

 

Place in an 8 x 8 - inch greased baking pan and set aside.

 

In a mixing bowl, beat eggs together and add milk and honey. Stir well.

 

Pour over bread mixture and bake for 30 minutes. Cool, then cut into

squares. Store leftovers well wraped in the refrigerator.

Flea Fighter Fingers

2 bouillon cubes

1 3/4 cups boiling water

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup rye flour

1 cup quick cooking rolled oats

1 cup cornmeal, stone ground

1/4 cup brewer's yeast

2 tablespoons garlic powder

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 egg -- beaten

 

1. In a 2-cup measuring cup, dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water and

set aside until room temperature.

 

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients.

 

3. Make a well in the flour mixture and gradually stir in oil, egg and

bouillon until well blended.

 

4. Divide dough into 2 balls, so it is easy to work with.

 

5. Knead each dough ball on a floured surface, about 3-4 minutes.

 

6. With a rolling pin, roll dough to between 1/4 and 1/2 " thickness.

 

7. Cut with small biscuit cutter and place on a baking sheet, lined with

foil.

 

8. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 300°F.

 

9. Cool on a rack until hard and store, at toom temperature, in a container

with a loose-fitting lid.

Makes about 100.

4 medium potatoes

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 pinch paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

 

Enough to share with the whole pack.

 

Preheat oven to 450°F.

 

Peel and cut potatoes into 1/2-inch strips.

 

Toss potato strips in oil and garlic powder and spread on a baking sheet.

 

Bake for about 30 minutes, turning several times during cooking until

golden.

 

Remove from the oven, then sprinkle with a pinch of paprika. Cool before

serving. Store in a sealed container and refrigerate.
