Turmeric(correct spelling) is also know as Haldi. Its official name is curcuma longa. It is a member of the ginger family. In its natural state it is a rhizone, or knobby root. It looks like a ginger root. Beware of certain mixtures containing turmeric. Some of these mixtures contain some very hot chillies. It is used a lot in North African cooking, particularly Moroccan.
