Guest guest Posted January 11, 2001 Report Share Posted January 11, 2001 * Exported from MasterCook * Chana Masala Recipe By :Martha Stewart Living, October 2000 Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 2 small onions -- finely diced ( 1 1/2 cups) 2 cloves garlic -- minced 1 1/2 cups crushed tomatoes -- (canned) 2 cans chickpeas -- rinsed & drained 1/2 jalapeno pepper -- seeded & very finely diced 1 teaspoon garam masala 1 teaspoon coarse salt 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro Heat oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add cumin seeds and cook until they begin to pop, about 30 seconds. Add onions, and cook until they begin to brown. Add garlic, and cook 1 minute more. Add tomatoes, chickpeas, jalapeno, garam masala, and salt. Reduce heat to low, and simmer 10 minutes.
