And if they are as compatible as this trio-sweet potatoes, braised cabbage with caraway, and wild rice with peas - you will not feel that anything's missing. Chewy whole wheat rolls and a homey apple crisp complete this weekday winter dinner. If you can't find whole wheat rolls at your local bakery, look for whole wheat bread (with no added fat). Then ask if the bakers would be willing to turn the same dough into rolls for you. You can buy them in quantity and freeze them, then put them straight from the freezer into a moderate oven to bring them to life. This is a particularly good idea if you live alone or have a small family who can't finish a loaf before it goes stale. The timing: Start the wild rice first, adding frozen petite peas, thawed, during the final minute or two, just to heat them through. Put the sweet potatoes in to bake. While they are baking, braise the cabbage. While the cabbage is simmering, assemble the crisp. Put the crisp in the oven when you sit down to dinner, - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
