Guest guest
The recipe that was posted that had 1/4 cup nutritional yeast 2 1/2 tablespoons whole wheat flour 2 tablespoons yellow cornmeal bothered me. Maybe because I am jewish and have eaten the same latkes all my life but that combination of ingredients just grossed me out. Maybe just me. I would never include nutritional yeast in my potato latkes. There is nothing that is not vegetarian in a normal latke but they are not vegan. I guess this makes them vegan with the egg replacer. I couldn't eat them knowing they were made with these ingredients. Has anyone tried them this way? My recipe includes potatotes, egg, onion, matzo meal and salt. Nothing else. I would think you could substitute egg substitute or egg replacer for the egg but add any other flavors and it would ruin the latke experience for me. In our family, we eat the latkes as a separate course. Just the latkes and some sour cream and/or apple sauce. That is it. So good.
